March Madness has come.....

So wake me up once April's half done.

It's not that I have anything against college basketball. I don't.

It's just hard for me to choose college over pro games. Pros have better players, better teams, crisper play, and better story lines. People often extol the virtues of March Madness by saying that any team can do the impossible. I agree that any team can beat anyone, but hesitate to say that's a good thing.

Sure, some team go undefeated in the next few weeks, but is there any guarantee that the best team will win the tourney? Sure, George Mason could beat UConn once, but could they do it three out of five? Not a chance. In a way, March Madness allows mediocre teams to be rewarded. Say what you will about the NBA, but there's rarely a debate about the worthiness of the four teams once the Conference Final round arrives.

Plus, the arrogance of the NCAA and its disciples bothers me. Mike Wilbon sums up my thoughts precisely. The college season has been unattractive, devoid of intriguing story lines and truly great teams. Now that the tournament has arrived and the brackets are out, we're all supposed to just clap our hands together in glee and rejoice that the "Greatest event" in sports is here, as if the NCAA were a trainer holding a fish and we all are otters begging to be fed. It's ridiculous.

But I'll fill out a bracket. And once it's done, I won't talk about it until its over unless I'm asked. But in case you wondered......

I've got Rock Chalk going all the way in San Antonio....
